Dedication of Richard Celeste Highway

On Saturday, November 9, State Representative Michael J. Skindell and State Senator Nickie Antonio led a ceremony honoring former Ohio governor Richard F. Celeste, in front of a standing-room-only crowd at Lakewood High School.

The official occasion for the ceremony was the christening of three miles of U.S. Interstate Highway 90 as “Governor Richard F. Celeste Highway.” Skindell began working to honor the Lakewood-raised former governor this way in 2006, and was joined in the effort by Antonio upon her election to the Ohio legislature.

A large number of current and former elected leaders also recognized Celeste with their presence, and with remarks praising his role inspiring generations to pursue public service. Speakers included Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, other state legislators, Lakewood mayor-elect Meghan George and three of her current colleagues on Lakewood city council, among others.
