Lake Erie Shoreline Improvement District

Shoreline erosion is a constant concern for families with property on the lakeshore.

Right now, few resources exist to help homeowners slow or prevent this damage, which can ultimately decrease property values. Some families are even forced to take out a second mortgage on their home to finance the needed repairs and improvements.

This is why Senator Skindell, along with Senator John Eklund, sponsored Senate Bill 51. This bill allows local communities to come together to facilitate larger, more cost-effective shoreline improvement projects through the creation of Special Improvement Districts. These districts, which would need 100% support among residents, would be able to go far beyond what individual homeowners are currently able to afford on their own.

Senate Bill 51 was recently signed into law by Governor Kasich.
